Catherine Ford was raised in Bloomsbury by her grandmother and mother. As a child, she battled an obsessive-compulsive disorder and suffered anxiety linked to associations with words. Ford began acting during her teen years and joined part of the National Youth Theatre. She was admitted to Sylvia Young Theatre School but after a week, she decided that she was not a fit. Ford applied instead at the Central School of Speech and Drama and was eventually offered a position on her fourth try.
