Catherine Ford, born in Bloomsbury (London), was raised by her mother, her grandmother as well as her godparents. Her father abandoned her family. Ford suffered from anxiety disorder that was rooted in words as a young child. Ford was first fascinated by acting as a teenager, and she joined the National Youth Theatre. She was accepted to the Sylvia Young Theatre School. But after just one week she decided it wasn't suitable for her. Ford rather applied to the Central School of Speech and Drama which she was eventually able to get the position on her 4th application. Shaun Dingwall would play Pete Tyler as a regular character for Doctor Who. Ford could graduate in 1993, but she already made a TV appearance in the 1992 episode Surgical Spirit. She adopted the title Catherine Tate. Tate was featured in a variety of television programs including The Bill, Men Behaving Badly and London's Burning in the Nineties. Tate also performed regularly in the theatre, eventually being a part of with the Royal Shakespeare Company for its 2000-2001 season. Tate became famous for her stand-up comedy, which were added to Tate's selection in the year 1996.
